Istanbul / November 2006

Sveti Stefan Bulgarian Church:

I think this is the most beautiful church in Istanbul. It is made of cast iron. Legend has it, the Ottoman Emperor refuses when the Bulgarians want to build a chuch. However, after strong insistance he has to give in, this time he sets a new barrier; "you have to finish it in one month!". Thus the pieces making up the church were cast in iron in Vienna, and brought to Istanbul by ship, and put together within one month:)
